Beckville coach Cherry Downs earned her 300th career win on Tuesday, but the team celebrated following win No. 301 at home against Garrison on Friday.

BECKVILLE — Amber Harris had 10 aces, Avery Morris had 11 kills and Allison Baker and Sophie Elliott combined for 41 assists as the No. 2 Beckville Ladycats whipped San Augustine Tuesday at home.

The Ladycats improve to 23-2 for the season and 7-0 in District 20-2A with the 25-7, 25-15, 25-6.

The win was No. 302 for Beckville Head Coach Cherry Downs, who picked up her 300th win on Oct. 6 on the road against Shelbyville.

Besides reaching double figures in aces — Harris had 10 of the teams’ 15 aces — she also had eight kills, six digs and a block.

Baker had 22 assists, five kills and four digs, while Elliott had 19 assists, an ace and a dig. Morris also had four aces and four digs.

Other standouts for the Ladycats include: Kinsley Rivers with six kills, five digs and a block; M.J. Weatherford had seven kills and two blocks; Lindsey Baker had two kills and a dig and Hannah Sharpless had four digs.

The Ladycats were scheduled to play at Timpson on Friday.

Their showdown with second-place Gary is next Tuesday in Beckville.

Gary comes back for 5-set win

GARY — The Lady Bobcats overcame a big obstacle to stay just a game back of Beckville, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to beat Timpson in a five-setter.

Gary improved to 15-4 overall and 6-1 in District 20-2A with the 16-25, 18-25, 25-17, 30-28, 15-7 win.

They were at Garrison on Friday.
