Junior Jakelvin Smith scored a game-high 18 points with nine rebounds, Jorden Prince scored 15 points and J’Koby Williams 13 points as host Beckville defeated visiting Joaquin 69-60 in a District 23-2A game last Friday.

Jayden Mojica scored nine points with five assists and three steals, while Austin Berry chipped in with seven points.

Beckville led Joaquin 37-30 at the half.

The win improved the Bearcats’ record to 16-5 overall and 1-1 in district play.

No. 16 ranked Beckville will host Shelbyville on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Beckville Girls Basketball

Senior McKinna Chamness scored a game-high 18 points and added seven rebounds, but the Beckville Ladycats basketball team fell to visiting Joaquin 51-48 in a hard fought District 23-2A game last Friday.

Amber Harris scored 11 points and added seven rebounds, while Reese Dudley and Monica Lockett both scored seven points, with Lockett adding six rebounds.

Beckville will host Shelbyville on Friday at 6:15 p.m.

Panola Men’s Basketball

Marcus Greene scored a team-high 15 points and Yaphet Moundi scored 13 points with six rebounds, but the Panola College men’s basketball team fell to host Coastal Bend 61-60 in a Region XIV Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

John Wilson scored nine points while Jaden Gray and Christian Henry both scored seven points, with Gray adding five rebounds.

Panola trailed Coastal Bend 34-24 at the half.

The Ponies (12-4 overall, 4-2 Region XIV) will look to right the ship when they host Victoria tonight at 5 p.m.

Panola Women’s Basketball

Sophomore Sharayah Johnson scored a team-high 15 points, but the Panola College women’s basketball team’s upset attempt came up just short in falling to visiting No. 8 ranked McLennan 61-58 on Saturday in Carthage.

Gabby Owens scored 10 points with nine rebounds, Avery Young scored nine points with a pair of steals, Kadresha Smith scored eight points, and Kayla Webster scored six with a pair of steals.

Panola trailed McLennan 32-24 at the half.

The Fillies (10-5) return to Region XIV Conference play tonight when they visit Coastal Bend at 5:30 p.m.

Carthage Boys Soccer

The Carthage boys soccer team went 0-3-1 in at the Pine Tree Tournament this past weekend.

Carthage lost to Athens 4-1 on Saturday, tournament hosts Pine Tree 2-1 on Friday, Lindale 1-0 on Thursday and opened tournament play with a 1-1 tie with Hallsville.

Senior goalkeeper Jacob Whatley finished with 32 combined saves in the cage for the Bulldogs.

Christian Barcenas had a goal and an assist and Erick Picazo scored a goal in the tournament for Carthage.

Carthage will visit Jasper on Tuesday Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
