Carthage’s Sindi Salazar captured the silver medal in the Junior Female 110-pound division on Thursday at the USA Boxing National Junior Olympics & Summer Festival in Lubbock.
Salazar defeated Meryland Gonzalez-Herrer in the semis before falling to Perla Bazaldua, the No. 1-ranked fighter in the country at the 110-pound division, in the finals.
Salazar will be back in the ring in early September when she will compete in Houston at the Texas State Girls Championships.
The soon-to-be Carthage junior wanted to thank the sponsors that continue to help her along the way in Rancho Grande, Razor Service Inc. and Fidel Mojica.
Carthage to host girls soccer camp
The Carthage High School girl’s soccer team will be providing a girls soccer camp starting on Monday.
The three-day camp is open to all girls ages six through incoming freshman and will take place at the City of Carthage’s soccer fields.
Registration for the camp starts at 7:30 a.m., with the camp running from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. each of the three days.
Campers are to bring their own cleats, shin guards, age-appropriate soccer ball and comfortable workout clothes. Water bottles and masks are also suggested.

The cost for the camp is $30 per student, and you can pay via cash or check made out to CHS Girls Soccer.
Ladycat Sports Camp starting July 20
Beckville will be having a Ladycat Sports Camp starting on Tuesday July 20.
The three-day camp will focus on the fundamentals of volleyball, basketball and softball.
The camp is for grades second through sixth and will go from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beckville High School Gym those three days.
The cost for the camp is $40 and payments can be made via Venmo to @Cherry-Downs.

Panola Youth Co-ed plans volleyball season
Panola County Youth Co-ed (PCYC) is a Christian league that is planning a volleyball season for ages 6-14.
Sign-ups will begin on July 21 with a limited number of spots available.
The cost is $25 for the first child and $10 for each additional child in the same household.

Panola rodeo team to host golf tournament
The Panola College rodeo team will be having a benefit golf tournament on July 24 at the Carthage Country Club.
The tournament will feature a two-person scramble structure.
The entry fee is $150 per team that includes a two drink tickets per player, chance to win hole in one, longest drive and closest to the hole belt buckles.
Each team can purchase four mulligans per team for $20.
The tournament will be a shotgun start that begins at 8 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m.
