After being tied at the half, the Panola College men’s basketball team outscored host Trinity Valley by 22 points in the second half to as the Ponies remain in first place in Region XIV Conference play after defeating the Cardinals 83-61 in Athens on Saturday.

Marcus Greene scored a game-high 24 points, including a season-high six 3-pointers and added five rebounds and six assists, John Wilson scored 14 points with four assists, and Yaphet Moundi scored 13 points with eight rebounds.

Chrishawn Christmas scored 10 points with eight rebounds, while Vianney Salatchoum and Kyndall Davis both scored six points, with Salatchoum adding eight boards and four blocks and Davis seven boards and three blocks.

Panola (16-4 overall, 8-2), who this ranked jumped back into the latest NJCAA top 25 rankings at No. 25, will host Navarro tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Navarro (13-6, 6-3) is second in the North Zone standings behind Panola and are coached by Grant McMillan. Panola Coach Mike Nesbitt was an assistant under McMillan during the 2018-19 season when McMillan was head coach for the Ponies.

Panola Women’s Basketball

Savannah Velazquez scored team-high 12 points with six rebounds and Sharayah Johnson scored 11 points, but the Panola College women’s basketball team fell to host and No. 2 ranked Trinity Valley 83-56 in a Region XIV Conference game last Saturday.

Avery Young scored eight points with six rebounds, Gionna Carr scored seven with six rebounds, and Kayla Webster scored six with seven rebounds.

Trinity Valley led Panola 37-22 at the half.

Trinity Valley (18-1 overall, 5-0 Region XIV) has won seven-straight, with all of those victories except for one coming via double figures.

Panola (12-6, 3-2) shot just 29 percent from the field, including going 2-of-18 from behind the 3-point line.

Panola will host Jacksonville today at 5:30 p.m.

Beckville Girls Basketball

Amber Harris scored a game-high 15 points, had eight rebounds and six steals as the Beckville Ladycats defeated Garrison 54-35 in District 23-2A play last Friday.

Lexi Barr scored 10 with six boards and six steals, and Laney Jones scored nine with three steals; Monica Lockett scored eight points with eight rebounds and three assists, Reese Dudley scored five, McKinna Chamness scored four with seven boards and a pair of blocks, while Maddie McAfee rounded out the scoring with three points in the win for Beckville.

The Ladycats will visit Harleton on Friday in a non-district game at 6:15 p.m.

Beckville Boys Basketball

Junior J’Koby Williams scored a team-high 14 points and had three assists, while Jorden Prince scored 13 points with three steals, but the Beckville Bearcats basketball team fell to host Garrison 52-46 in a District 23-2A game last Friday.

Jakelvin Smith scored nine points with 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Beckville led Garrison 20-18 at the half.

The Bearcats are off until Jan. 31 when they visit Joaquin.

Gary Boys Basketball

Sophomore Mason Powell scored a game-high 21 points, but the Gary Bobcats basketball team fell to host Shelbyville 54-46 in a District 23-2A game last Friday.

Thomas Flowers scored nine points with nine rebounds and a pair of steals, and Corbin Arwine scored eight points.

Shelbyville led Gary 25-23 at the half.

Gary will host Garrison on Friday, and it will be Homecoming for the Bobcats.

Gary Girls Basketball

Halyn Tullos scored a team-high eight points in the Gary Lady Bobcats basketball team’s 36-19 loss to host Shelbyville in a District 23-2A game last Friday.

Aubrey Kennedy scored five points, while the trio of Cheyenne Woodfin, Makayla Woodfin and Abigail Johnson all scored two.

Gary will host Garrison on Friday, and it will be Homecoming for the Lady Bobcats.

Carthage Boys Soccer

The Carthage Bulldogs boy’s soccer team went 1-0-2 at the Hudson Tournament this past weekend.

Carthage tied Crockett 1-1 on Saturday, tied Splendora 1-1 on Friday and defeated Silsbee 3-2 on Thursday.

Adrian Lopez and Erick Picazo both scored two goals, with Lopez adding an assist. Cooper Joines scored a goal, while Christian Barcenas had a pair of assists and Daniel Salazar one assist.

Goalkeeper Jacob Whatley recorded 23 saves in the tournament.

Lopez and Whatley were named to the all-tournament team.

Carthage (3-4-3) will begin District 15-4A play on Friday when they visit Kilgore at 6:45 p.m.

Carthage Girls Soccer

Junior Kensington Travis scored a goal in the Carthage Lady Bulldogs soccer team’s 2-1 loss to host Lindale last Friday.

Lexi Lopez assisted to Travis on the goal.

Goalkeeper Destiny Allison recorded eight saves in the cage for Carthage.

Carthage (5-3 overall) will begin District 15-4A play on Friday when they host Kilgore at 6:45 p.m.

Padilla Awards

Beckville seniors Bo Hammons, Brady Davis, Jayden Mojica and junior J’Koby Williams were named to the Padilla Poll’s 2A Division I all-state team.

Hammons was named a first-team all-state linebacker, Davis a second-team all-state offensive lineman, Mojica a second-team all-State kicker and Williams a second-team all-state running back.
