Jada Walton

Carthage softball player Jada Walton rounds third base before scoring in a District 17-4A seedings game. The Lady Bulldogs faced Lake Belton in the Area playoffs on Friday night.

Senior Ashton Jones led off the game with a home run and the Carthage Lady Bulldogs softball team never looked back in defeating host Robinson 10-3 in a 4A bi-district clinching playoff game last Friday in Robinson.

Jones went 3-for-4 on the day and had three RBIs.

Tessa Smith went 2-5 with two RBIs and a run, Jaycee Page 2-4 with a run scored, and Ryleigh Green 2-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Carthage scored three runs in the first and added another in the fourth before Robinson cut the Lady Dawgs’ lead down to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Carthage responded with a five-run sixth inning and tacked on one more insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Every Carthage starter but one had at least one hit in the game, and every starter but one scored in the game.

Freshman Mallory Tutt got the win in the circle throwing all seven innings. She allowed 11 hits, three earned runs, walked none and struck out five.

Panola Baseball

The Panola College baseball team dropped their final regular season two Region XIV Conference games of the season, falling 6-5 in eight innings and 6-4 in seven innings at host Paris last Saturday.

In the first game, the Ponies erased a three run deficit with a three-run fifth inning and briefly took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth before the Dragons took back the lead 5-4 going into the seventh.

Panola tied the game 5-5 in the top of the seventh before Paris won it in walk-off fashion in the eighth.

Haziel Cruz went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs, Blaine Thomas and Max Lucas both doubled, with Lucas adding two RBIs and Thomas scoring.

Austin Morgan, Ryan Sosa and Brock Lambert all had RBIs in the game.

In the second game, Paris put up a five spot in the bottom of the fourth to break a 1-1 tie — and Panola, even with three runs in the top of the seventh, couldn’t quite muster up enough late game heroics for a comeback.

Thomas went 4-for-4 in the game with a pair of RBIs, Cole Joyner doubled and scored, while Matthew Etzel, Sawyer Smith and Austin Morgan all singled for the Ponies.

Panola (30-21) will compete in the Region XIV North Regional Tournament in Paris beginning this morning at 11.

Paris will take on Galveston at 11 a.m., and Panola will face Alvin at 3 p.m. The winner of the four-team tournament advances.

All games will be broadcasted on tsrnsports.com.
