JACKSONVILLE — Slow starts in two of their first three games have spelled disaster for the Panola College Fillies as they dropped a pair of games over the weekend at the Jacksonville Tournament.
They were crushed 75-48 by undefeated Hill College on Friday, while Cisco College held on for a 68-53 win Saturday.
Panola is now 0-3 on the young season and is scheduled to play its home opener Saturday at 2 p.m. against No. 9 Tyler Junior College.
Hill College jumped out to a 20-2 lead after one quarter of play in Friday afternoon’s game. It was 34-17 at the half.
Things didn’t get any better in the second half as Hill outscored the Fillies 41-19.
There was a big discrepancy from 3-point range as the Fillies hit just 2 of 19, while Hill hit 12 of 25. Hill also outrebounded the Fillies 44-32 and forced 21 turnovers.
Destini Whitehead had nine points and five rebounds and Ginger Reece had seven points to lead the Fillies on offense.
Things were a little better against Cisco, but another slow start made it an uphill battle all day.
PC trailed 18-9 after one period, but was only outscored 50-44 the rest of the way.
Two players had double-doubles for the Fillies has Odeth Betancourt had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Sydney Burris had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Reece had three assists and three blocks for the game.
The Fillies held their turnovers down to a more manageable 13 on the day.
Reese Gardner had 19 points and Naroa DeLlarduyahad 12 points and 16 rebounds for Cisco.
