BEEVILLE — The Panola College Ponies lost a tough one Saturday, falling 86-80 to the Coastal Bend College Cougars at the Marecek Physical Fitness Center.

The loss was the second in as many games since returning from their break, while the Cougars picked up their first conference win in eight tries.

The two losses also dropped the Ponies from this week’s NJCAA rankings. They were 14th when the week began.

The Ponies (14-4, 5-2) will get a chance to right things on Wednesday when they play at home against Paris Junior College.

The Cougars stayed in the contest by hitting the boards hard as they outrebounded the Ponies 46-38, including 16-9 on the offensive board resulting in several second chance shots.

The Ponies also had trouble hitting from the 3-point line, a usual strong point for the team.

Dominique Jackson led the Ponies in scoring with 16 points off the bench and four assists, while Kelyn Pennie had 15, Jermain Drewey had 11 points, Stanton Rose had 10 points and eight rebounds and Cameron Carson also had 10 points.
