CENTER — The Carthage Lady Bulldogs battled with the Center Lady Riders for three quarters before pulling away late for 58-42 win Tuesday night in District 10-4A action.

The Lady Bulldogs improve to 16-10 for the season and 6-1 in district play. A win at home Friday against Jasper would clinch the district title.

“We play Jasper tonight with the opportunity to lock up first place in district,” Carthage Coach Michael Johnson said.

“Not sure the last time that happened here in Carthage; but the girls set that goal at the beginning of the year and we are incredibly fortunate to be in control of that Friday night.”

Carthage led 12-11 after one period and 25-21 at half. The Lady Raiders made it a 36-33 game heading into the fourth, but it was all Carthage from there with a 22-8 run in the fourth.

Zee McGrue led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 24 points and eight assists, while Jada McLin had 11 points and six rebounds and Paula Jardon had eight points.

“The girls played well tonight,” Johnson said. “We had a couple spurts where scoring was tough but the girls persevered through some adversity. Playing in Center is always a tough venue. The Lady Dawgs were able to keep the pressure on for all four quarters and I think it got to Center in the fourth quarter. We finished the game on 22-8 run which allowed us to pull away in the end.”
