GARLAND — The No. 12 Carthage Lady Dawgs held their own in the Garland Invitational Tournament over the weekend going undefeated in pool play before eventually falling in the fifth-place match.

In pool play action on Friday, Carthage beat Forney 23-25, 25-21, 25-23; dropped Mesquite Horn 25-20, 18-25, 25-21; and finished off North Garland 25-23, 23-25, 25-21.

Top players against Forney were: Faith Kruebbe with 11 Kills, two blocks and an ace; Cami Hicks with nine kills, five blocks and five digs; McKenna Zett with eight kills and 14 digs; Kristen Stewart with 27 assists, eight digs and an ace; Chesney Baker with 25 digs; Addi Surratt with 11 digs; and Sadie Smith with 10 assists.

Against North Garland, Hicks had 16 kills, three blocks and an ace; Kruebbe had five kills, two blocks and digs; Stewart had 19 assists and two aces; and Baker had 11 digs.

Against Mesquite Horn, Hicks had seven kills, and five blocks; Zett had eight kills and eight digs; Makhai Lewis had five blocks, Kinsey King had five kills; Stewart had 11 assists and 14 digs; Smith had 11 assists; Baker had 17 digs; Surratt had 13 digs.

Carthage beat Rowlett on Saturday 25-14, 26-24 in the Round of 16 as Hicks had eight kills and three blocks; Kruebbe had five kills and six digs; Stewart had 12 assists and two aces; and Baker had 13 digs and three aces.

However, they fell to eventual champion Sachse 25-21, 25-21 in the quarterfinals and then fell to Richardson 23-25, 25-20, 25-21.

The Lady Dawgs are 4-2 on the young season and will return to action against West Rusk Tuesday.
