HUNTINGTON — The Carthage Lady Bulldogs dug themselves a big hole in the first quarter and spent the rest of Tuesday night’s game getting out of it.

But the Huntington Lady Devils held the scoring edge in the fourth quarter and that was enough to push them to a 56-53 win over the Lady Dawgs in the regular-season finale.

Carthage finishes the season 16-12 and finishes District 20-4A with a 5-3 record, tied for second with Huntington. The Lady Devils won the coin clip for seeding in the playoffs, and Carthage will be the third-place team.

They will face Madisonville at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Lufkin Hudson in bi-district action.

Huntington led 17-7 after the opening period and still held a 30-24 lead at the half.

A 16-10 scoring advantage by the Lady Dawgs tied it at 40-40 heading into the fourth, but Huntington outscored Carthage 16-13 in the final eight minutes of play to squeak by.

Zee McGrue led the Lady Dawgs with 25 points and six assists, while Makhai Lewis had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds,

Carthage will be the home team in the playoff game. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for a student/child at the door.
