The Carthage High School Athletic Hall of Honor Class of 2019 is a diverse group of five who were presented on Friday, Sept. 13.
Selected were Otis Amy, Sonja Soape Chastain, Kadrian “K.K.” Bryant, Kaylee Davis and Carl Hedges.
Amy, a 1985 graduate of Carthage, was an all-district running back and defensive back and was the MVP of the football team. He was also all-district in basketball and was a regional qualifier in track.
He attended Austin College where he was a Kodak All-American wide receiver, setting NAIA records for receptions and receptions yards and the AC school record for receptions, yards and touchdown passes.
Bryant, a 2003 graduate of CHS, was the district MVP in basketball in both 2002 and 2003. He was also an All-East Texas selection and the school record holder for points in a game with 48.
He played collegiately at Mississippi Valley State and led the SWAC in field goal percentage at 58 percent.
He was Coach of the Year last season in District 21-3A as he led Nacogdoches Central Heights to the district title.
Chastain, a 1985 graduate of CHS, was a first-team all-district performer two years and was the Lady Bulldogs’ Most Valuable Player. She also lettered three years in track and field.
She was a state qualifier for the Texas High School Rodeo and was the Breakaway Roping Champion at Sam Houston State and Fort Scott Community College.
Davis, a 2010 graduate of Carthage, was a three-time all-district pitcher after being named the Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. She was the All-East Texas Pitcher of he Year, a three-time All-State pitcher and played in the 2010 High School All-Star Game.
She played one year for Texas Woman’s University and was twice the Long Star Conference Pitcher of the Week. She went on to East Texas Baptist where she was a first-team All-American Southwest Conference pitcher and also made the All-West Region team.
Hedges is the Voice of the Bulldogs for the past 39 years, having served as the PA announcer since 1980. He announces both football and track and is the statistician for the Bulldogs.
He is a loyal supporter of all Bulldog extra-curricular activities.
