NACOGDOCHES — Despite big all-around games from Allison Baker and Miranda Mize, the Central Heights Blue Devils held off the Beckville Ladycats 3-2 Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.

Central Heights won 25-20, 21-25, 22-25, 26-23, 15-12 to drop the defending Class 2A state champions to 0-1. Central is in Class 3A.

Baker had 30 assists, 10 digs, five kills and an ace, while Mize had 14 kils, 13 digs and three blocks.

Sophie Elliott had 10 assists, two digs and four of the Ladycats’ eight aces; Lindsey Baker had eight kills and four digs; Kinsley Rivers had five kills, seven digs and three blocks; and Avery Morris had seven kills, four digs and four blocks.

Both teams will play in the Central Heights Tournament this weekend.
