Backward Gallop

Freshman Sindi Salazar finished fourth in the Backward Gallop cross-country meet put on by LeTourneau University on Saturday.

LONGVIEW – The Cartage Bulldogs finished third and the Lady Bulldogs finished fourth at LeTourneau’s Backward Gallop on Saturday.

The Bulldogs had three top-10 finishers and ended up being edged out by Kilgore for second place by a point.

Saltillo won the boys race with 36 points, followed by Kilgore with 48, Carthage with 49, HEAT of Tyler with 131 and Harmony was fifth with145.

Marc Hanks was the first Bulldog to cross the finish line in the 5K race, finishing third in 17:40.7. That was just ahead of teammate Eric Canada in fourth in 17:50.2. Nestor Hernandez was 10th in 18:31.4.

Cody Miller finished 15th in 19:07.0 and Jose Hernandez was 21st in 20:03.6.

Kilgore captured the girls’ 3,200-meter course with just 34 points, followed by Saltillo with 61, Waskom with 69, Carthage with 74 and Harleton with 110.

Freshman Sindi Salazar was the first Lady Bulldog to cross the finish line, finishing fourth in 13:31.4.

Zee McGrue was sixth in 13:47.2; Kip Travis was 12th in 14:09.7; Melissa Salazar was 30th in 15:29.0; Melissa Garcia was 31st in 15:29.5; and Kaily Ezernack was 35th in 15:45.2.
