The Panola College women’s basketball team are off to a 6-1 start this season and earned their first NJCAA national ranking this week.

The Fillies are ranked No. 24 in Division I. Joining Panola from Region XIV is Trinity Valley (7-0), who is ranked No. 5; Tyler (5-1), who is No. 8; and Angelina (8-1), who is ranked No. 25.

Panola’s lone defeat this season came from New Mexico Junior College (7-1), who is ranked No. 7 in the country.

So far this season Courtlyn Loudermill leads a balanced Fillies scoring attack, as the sophomore transfer from Oral Roberts is averaging 10 points per game to go along with four rebounds per game, which is tied for third on the team.

Nya Harmon, Bineta Diatta and Lauren Davenport are all averaging over eight points per game. Nissa Sam-Grant, a 6-foot-5 transfer from Arkansas Pine Bluff, is leading the team with eight rebounds per game while Diatta, Loudermill and Destiny Burton are each averaging at least four rebounds per game.

Sophomore Jayla Brooks, a Southern Medothist University transfer, leads the Fillies with 3.4 assists per games, and this is after missing two games this season.

The Fillies will be back in action this Friday and Saturday for the Panola College Thanksgiving Classic.

Coach Alex Furr went out of her way to make this year’s Classic a very challenging one to say the least.

Panola will take on a very formidable foe in Odessa College at 3 p.m. and the following day will face Northwest Florida the following day at 5 p.m. Northwest Florida is currently undefeated and the No. 1 ranked team in the country.
