WHITE OAK — Competing in the Championship Bracket at the Shirley Atkins Tournament, the Carthage Lady Dogs won two of three matches and took consolation.

Carthage whipped Whitehouse in three sets 25-23, 19-25, 25-20 to take the consolation trophy.

Earlier in the afternoon, Carthage fell to tourney runner-up Tyler Lee 22-25, 25-22, 20-25 before sweeping Pleasant Grove 25-16, 25-17.

Cami Hicks led the way with 27 kills and 12 blocks. Kristen Stewart had 26 assists and 10 digs. Chesney Baker managed 30 digs and Addi Surratt added 24. Sadie Smith handed out 21 assists and Faith Kruebbe finished with nine kills.

The Lady Dogs (21-4) play Hallsville on Tuesday.

Ladycats bounce back

BECKVILLE — The Beckville Ladycats have been having a rough time lately as they have double-dgit losses after falling just eight times last year in capturing the Class 2A state title.

However, they appear to be returning to their winning ways with a straight set win Friday over Quitman.

Beckville won 25-15, 25-12, 25-11 to improve to 18-11 for the season

Miranda Mize led the way for the Ladycats with six kills, 7 digs and an ace; Allison Baker with six kills, four digs and 15 assists; Kinsley Rivers with two aces, four kills, two digs and two blocks; Lindsey Baker with eight kills and one dig; Avery Norris with two aces, two kills and one dig; and Amber Harris wit one ace, three kills, one dig, one block and one assist.
