HUNTSVILLE — Carthage’s Eric Canada finished third to qualify for state, but his teammates missed out by just six points at the Region III-4A Cross Country Meet Monday at Kate Barr-Ross Park.
The Lady Bulldogs finished 15th with its top finisher taking 83rd place.
The third-place finish by Canada on the 5K course was his worst of the season, as he won five of six races and finished second in the other. His time at the regional meet was 17:03.7.
He will run at the UIL State Meet Nov. 3 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
Palestine won the meet with 94 points, followed by Hudson with 116, Huffman Hargrave with 128, Hillsboro with 139 and Carthage with 145.
“The Boys team missed qualifying by six points,” said Coach Arthur Horton. “It was heartbreaking for them.”
Eli Peveto of Little Cypress-Mauriceville won the event in 16:05, followed by Peyton Pluenneka of Huffman Hargrave in 17:04.3.
The next best finisher for the Bulldogs was Marc Hanks with a 17:38.2 in 19th place. Jose Hernandez was 45th 18:34.2; Cody Miller was 49th in 18:38.2; Nestor Hernandez was 56th in 18:50.4; Jakeildrick Williams was 129th in 20:22.4; and Evan Pepper was 133 in 20:42.5
Fairfield was the girls winner with 50 points, followed by Alvarado wih 78 and Hudson with 103. Carthage was 15th with 377.
Kayla Jones was the top Carthage finisher in 84th in a time of 19:49.9,followed by Emily Edelen in 81st n 15:02.2; Mercedes Reynolds in 112th in 15:33.7; Avery Malone in 113th in 15:35.5; and Kaylee Hoell in 144 in 16:23.2.
In the Region III-2A Girls regional meet, the Gary Lady Bobcats finished 21st overall with 510 points.
Carlee Linebarger was the top finisher in 64th place in 15:51.1; followed by Summer Stuart in 90th in 15:51.0; Emma Adams in 142nd in 17:00.6; Feather Bellaw in 160th in 17:54.0; and Aideth Chavez-Valdez in 164th in 18:11.8
Beckville boys finish 17th
DALLAS — Cade Nelson was the top individual finisher in 79th, and the Beckville Bearcats finished 17th overall at the UIL Region II-2A Cross Country Meet at the Jesse Owens Memorial Complex on Monday.
Nelson was clocked in 20:51.94; followed by Jaxon Evans in 83rd in 20:59.59; Colby Crawford in 93rd in 21:24.76; Harley Seaman in 106th in 22:03.76; Quinton Roberts in 107th in 22:11.42; Dalton Pelzel in 113 in 22:30.01; and Covie Latham in 133rd in 26:07.84.
