PARIS — Kamari Brown scored a game-high 25 points and the Panola College Ponies remain in second place after an 86-60 win over the Paris Junior College Dragons in Region XIV action Wednesday night.

The Ponies are now 19-7 for the season and 10-5 in regional action. Panola is at Trinity Valley Community College for a 4 p.m. game Saturday in Athens.

“The key to the game is we were unselfish,” Panola Coach Aaron Smith said. “We started out making some shots, and we had a lot of them that were assisted baskets. We got some good shots and sometimes we’d pass them up for every better shots.

“That helped us open up a 21-point halftime lead and it really set the tone for the game.”

The Ponies had 33 made baskets and assisted on 26 of them. Nine of the 10 players had at least one assist.

Leading 49-28 at the intermission, the Ponies followed the same pattern in the second half. They added to their lead and then with another strong start and then coasted the rest of the way.

“I was pleased with the effort we got out of the guys,” Smith said. “This is the way we need to be playing.”

Aaron Gedeon added 15 points and five rebounds, while Christopher Coley had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal, Dominique Jackson and Davian Sanders both had four assists, Cameron Carson had eight points and two assists, and Stanton Rose and Jermaine Drewey both had six points and three assists.

The Ponies have a 1 1/2 game lead over TVCC heading into Saturday’s game and Smith would like to see another solid performance.

“This is a big game on the road for us Saturday,” he said. “We have to be focused. If we take care of business here, we have a week off to relax before we’re at home against Bossier Parish.”
