CARTHAGE-Funeral services for Mr. Troy Barrett, 83, of Carthage, Texas were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Holder and Rev. Dr. Kirby Hill officiating. Burial followed in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. A viewing was held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Guests were invited to attend services via Facebook live.
Mr. Troy Glenn Barrett was born July 19, 1937 in Nacogdoches County, Texas and passed this life July 27, 2020 in Carthage, Texas. Troy was the older of two sons born to the marriage of Travis Eugene and Fannie Myrtle Byrd Barrett. He was raised and schooled in Nacogdoches County, attending Gary and Carthage schools. Troy met his lifetime love Freda Yvonne Bishop at church, they married March 1, 1956 and celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Troy would begin his career as a pipefitter, welder, and would own and operate Troy's Radiator Shop from 1976 to 2010. He was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church. Troy was a skilled wood worker, loved fishing, and was known for hosting famous fish fry's with community friends. He was a man of great wit, humor, honesty and a man of his word. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Wayne Barrett; and infant grandchild, Casey Beach.
Mr. Barrett is survived by his loving wife, Freda Barret of Carthage; three devoted daughters, Katherine Ann Gollmitzer and husband, Bill of Vincennes, Indiana, Sherry Sturdivant and husband, Ricky of Orange, Susan Bounds of Carthage; sister-in-law, Joyce Barrett of Carthage; grandchildren, John Schultz and wife, Melissa of Kennesaw, Georgia, Amy Schultz Cecil and husband, Thomas of Kilgore, Michael Manchac of Orange, and Kelly Manchac Moss and husband, Joel of Bridge City; nine beloved great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Thomas Cecil, Eric Smith, Charles Beach, Steve Bishop, Bobby Hill, and Jeffrey Anderson. The family suggests memorials to the Gideons International.
