CARTHAGE-Funeral services for Mrs. Sue Wilkerson Soape, 79, of Lake Cherokee will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Stewart Cemetery in Tatum, Texas under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday night, December 10, 2019 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sue Wheeler Wilkerson Soape was born March 11, 1940 in Old Center, Texas. She passed from this life December 7, 2019 in Tyler, Texas. Sue was one of four children born to the marriage of John Amos and Nettie Francis Peterson Wheeler. She was raised and schooled in Tatum and obtained her beautician credentials from Panola College. She would spend 27 years as a beauty operator, owning and operating Soape Suds for twenty of those years in Carthage.
Sue loved sewing, and cooking for family and friends. She was a talented artist attending paint classes with her friends. She served other in many ways including calling Bingo at Panola Nursing Home. She was a longtime devoted member and Sunday School Teacher at Friendship Baptist Church. Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Francis; brothers, George William Wheeler, Ernest Floyd Wheeler, and a sister, Rebecca Ann Duffer.
Mrs. Soape is survived by her devoted daughter, Lisa Jones of Henderson; son, Steve Wilkerson and wife, Sara Lou of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Stephen Wilkerson and wife, Carrie of Denver, CO, Starla Bickerstaff and husband, Paul of Tyler, Britnie Rosenbalm and husband, Christopher of Greenville, and Kalie Dean and husband, Gary of Santa Fe; step-grandson, Gordon Davis and wife, Gabby of Decatur; great-grandchildren, Payton, Gavin, Maddie, and Alexa; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Jason Wheeler, Richie Curry, Bubba Joe Gibson, Danny Bickerstaff, Danny Cranford, and Gene Holland. The family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
