TIMPSON-Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Patricia Smith, 80, of Timpson, Texas will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2020 in the Antioch Cemetery with Dr. Charles Dodson and Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. A viewing was held from 5-8 p.m. Friday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Guests may attend the service via Facebook live.
Mrs. Patricia Ann Wilson Smith was born October 29, 1939 in Lufkin, Texas. She passed this life July 30, 2020 peacefully in Carthage, Texas. Pat was the middle child of three born to the marriage of R.E. and Mary Bell Wade Wilson. She graduated Harding High School in S.E. Texas with the class of 1958 and received her Bachelor's in Education through Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She married Rual Denman Smith March 6, 1959 and the couple celebrated 59 years of marriage and three children before he preceded her in death in 2018.
Mrs. Smith worked as a professional educator with over 50 years of service. Pat taught English for Corrigan, Lufkin and Timpson ISD's before her 32 years with Carthage ISD, followed by another 12 years of teaching in Jacksonville ISD. After retirement, she returned home to Carthage to substitute teach until the age of 79. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage, the Carthage Book Forum and many community based causes. Pat was a woman who knew her mind and loved sharing her thoughts with others. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Ashley Havannah Smith.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving children, Rual Eric Smith and Christa Hornbeck of Coppell, Ryan Gabryl Smith of Carthage, and Roane Wilson Smith and wife, Jill of Carthage; brother, Robert Wilson and wife, Patsy of Carthage; sister, Sylvia Hammock and husband, Bill of Lumberton; grandchildren, Payton Kree Diaz and husband, Alex, Kaylie Jordan Andrews and husband, Russell Aaron, Sadie Faith Smith, Arie Isabella Smith, Kurt Adron Smith and wife, Christina, Kiley Aaron Smith and wife, Jennifer, Rual Kelby Smith, Roane Austin Smith, and Jaden Denman Smith; step-grandson, Luke Slejko; great-grandchildren, Bristell Rayne Andrews, Krosby Aaron Smith, Kainsley Elizabeth Smith, Cora Eve Smith and Logan Richter Smith.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kurt Smith, Kiley Smith, Kelby Smith, Austin Smith, Jaden Smith, Russell Andrews, Alex Diaz and Luke Slejko.
