CARTHAGE Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Hudson Rhodes, 87, of Carthage, Texas were held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2021, at the Faith Assembly of God with Rev. David Baze officiating. Burial followed in the Buena Vista Cemetery in Timpson, Texas. Visitation was held from 9-10 a.m. Monday prior to the service.
Mrs. Betty Jo Hudson Rhodes was born January 24, 1933 in Timpson, Texas. She passed this life January 1, 2021 in Carthage, Texas. Betty was the oldest of eight children born to the marriage of James Clyde and Annie Mildred Bates Hudson. She was raised and schooled in Crocket graduating as the salutatorian of her senior class and she continued her education attending Business College. She married Billy Joe Rhodes in November of 1951 and together they raised two children in a loving home before he preceded her in death.
Betty was a gifted pianist, beginning at the age of eight attending Stamps Music School, accompanying her father's quartet she was self-taught playing for churches, nursing homes and much more over her lifetime.
Mrs. Rhodes worked as the business manager and personnel head for Panola General Hospital for many years. She was active in the Faith Assembly of God Church as choir director and served on the board. She is also preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Donald Hudson.
Mrs. Rhodes is survived by her loving children, Steven Rhodes of Carthage, Pam Payne and husband, Mike of Huntsville; siblings, Marilyn Corder and husband, J.P. of Timpson, Martha Duck and husband, Art of Houston, Carloyn Granberry and husband, Joe Paul of Crockett, Charlotte Hayes and husband, Jimmy of Tyler, Bobby Hudson and wife, Brenda of Carthage, James Bubba Hudson and wife, Wanda of Florida; grandchildren, Amy Busti and husband, Tony of Huntsville, Joel Payne and wife, April of New Waverly; great-grandchildren, Blane Busti, Ally Beth Busti, Caleb Busti, Joshua Busti, Bethany Payne, and Judson Payne; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
