The Panola County Commissioners’ Court is seeking regional funding for road projects in Beckville and Clayton.
Commissioners submitted priority project forms for road repair projects in the county to the North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority, a government agency, which was created, according to its website, to “accelerate the development of transportation projects in North East Texas.”
Judge LeeAnn Jones said the county received money from them a few years ago for a stop sign to be put on FM 699.
Jones said NET RMA has money available again and has asked for projects.
“Commissioner Cole has, under the Beckville project, suggested a turn lane with an improved shoulder at Texas 149 and FM 959 in Beckville,” Jones said. “And Commissioner Ronnie LaGrone in Clayton has again suggested a traffic light at highway intersection FM 1970 and state highway 315. That one had been submitted before, and we were turned down because there hadn’t been enough fatalities.”
