The fourth annual Piney Woods Church Orchestra Festival was held Sunday, June 6, at the First Baptist Church of Carthage.

Representing nine east Texas churches, a total of 47 instrumentalists participated. Local churches represented were First Baptist Church of Carthage, First United Methodist Church of Carthage, Southside Baptist Church, and St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church.

Jeremy Gressman served as the Festival Clinician. Jeremy is a graduate of East Texas Baptist University and currently serves as the Middle School band director in Waskom. Dr. Ian Apperspach served as organist and guest conductor. Dr. Apperspach serves as adjunct music professor for both Panola College and East Texas Baptist University.

The festival seeks to provide a setting where church orchestras and individual instrumentalists can come together to learn new sacred music, meet other area musicians, and perform a concert.

The festival also strives to promote individual participation in the local church. Large and small churches are encouraged to identify and use instrumentalist, young and old, in providing music, whether hymn playing, offertory music, or other special music, regularly during their times of worship.
