Ten drilling permits have been issued in Panola County since mid-November, online records from the Texas Railroad Commission show, with nine of those permits going to Rockcliff Energy Operating LLC.

Rockcliff’s approved permits include:

Three new drill permits for horizontal wells 7 miles east of DeBerry, all approved Dec. 9

  • Two new drill permits for horizontal wells 13 miles southeast of DeBerry, approved on Dec. 12 and Dec. 18

A new drill permit for a horizontal well 11 miles southeast of DeBerry, approved on Dec. 12

  • Three new drill permits for horizontal wells 14.5 miles southeast of DeBerry, two approved Dec. 12 and one approved Dec. 13

Petroquest Energy LLC also received a new drill permit, for a horizontal well 14.5 miles northeast of Carthage on Dec. 17.

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 803 original drilling permits in December 2019 compared to 811 in December 2018. The December 2019 total included 743 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, 8 to re-enter plugged well bores and 52 for re-completions of existing well bores. The breakdown of well types for those permits is 162 oil, 37 gas, 571 oil or gas, 23 injection, zero service and 10 other permits.

According to Baker Hughes Inc., the Texas rig count as of Jan. 3 was 403, representing about 51 percent of all active rigs in the United States.
