service league

New Carthage Service League members are Sandy Griffin and Marilyn Reinemer.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the Carthage Service League approved monetary donations for several local non-profit organizations at their Nov. meeting held at the Sammy Brown Library. These include the Panola College Veterans’ Day dinner, Panola County Veterans’ Relief Fund, Samaritan House, New Destinations, Panola County Cancer Coalition, and Christmas Blessings.

The League is grateful for the generous donations of merchandise and the loyal Thrift Shop patrons who make the charitable donations possible.

President Debbie Jernigan welcomed two new members, Marilyn Thames Reinemer and Sandy Griffin, who are already volunteering hours at the Thrift Shop. Jernigan also reported on a very successful Halloween event on the downtown square.

Members also voted to participate in the KGAS Shop Carthage First campaign with live broadcasts on Dec. 3.

Sammy Brown Library Board Chair Nancy Langford announced that WiFi hotspots are now available for checkout. A grant provided ten hotspots which are available to adult patrons free of charge for seven day periods of time. These devices allow a person to have WiFi access on their own personal devices. Interested persons can receive more information at the library.

Hostesses providing “grab and go” refreshments were Linda Howard, Sharon Kyle, Peggy London, Sandra Morrison, Linda Salgado, and Linda Walkoviak.

Members attending the meeting included Donna Arnold, Brenda Beasley, Ruth Bristow, Bobbie Cariker, Donna Cariker, Sarah Davidson, Dorothy Foley, Cherie Gibert, Fran Giroux, Darline Graves, Griffin, Jo Hall, JoAn Henry, Kim Holcomb, Richie Honeycutt, Margie Hopkins, Linda Howard, Harriet Huff, Janet Humber, Jernigan, Deanna Jones, Betty Kasper, Kyle, Langford, London, Jo McMillin, Morrison, Alice Newton, Lana Overton, Reinemer, Salgado, Judy Stuart, Walkoviak and Kay Williamson.
