Carthage Service League volunteers ended a successful year with a “Welcome Summer” salad supper at the Sammy Brown Library recently.
President Harriet Huff presided over the business meeting, which included monthly reports on recent activities. New officers elected for a 2-year term were President Harriet Huff and Corresponding Secretary Donna Arnold. Watermelon décor for the supper was provided by Linda Howard.
Co-chairs of the downtown Thrift Shop, Cherie Gibert and Betty Kasper, announced a “Flash Sale” on Monday, June 17, when everything in the shop will be half price. The purpose of the special sale was to move summer merchandise resulting from abundant donations from generous patrons.
Several members helped residents of Briarcliff Skilled Nursing Facility prepare for the recent Senior Prom. The customers were very appreciative of the fashion advice and looked beautiful. Also, wedding dresses in the shop have been on sale during May and June. Those that are not purchased will eventually be donated for angel dresses.
Kasper congratulated the volunteer winners who had performed extra duties at the Thrift Shop during the month. They were Arnold, Sally Dawson, Jimmie Edmonds and Barbara Wilson.
Nancy Langford reported on the Summer Reading Program at the library. Over two hundred children have registered and are experiencing activities every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This summer’s theme is “A Universe of Stories.”
Members attending the meeting included Linda Albers, Barbara Alexander, Arnold, Edmonds, Cecilia English, Dorothy Foley, Gibert, Darline Graves, JoAnn Henry, Kim Holcomb, Margie Hopkins, Richie Honeycutt, Howard, Huff, Debbie Jernigan, Kasper, Sharon Kyle, Langford, Peggy London, Kaylan McKnight, Jo McMillin, Sandra Morrison, Maudeen Peters, Ruth Shull, Ellen Stokes, Kay Williamson and Pamela Wilson.
