The Pride of Panola Honor Choir performed at the Q.M. Martin Auditorium Feb. 4.

The Carthage Music Club, an affiliate of the National & Texas Federations of Music Clubs, held its latest meeting on Feb. 4 in the Q.M. Martin Auditorium of Panola College.

Stephen George, president, welcomed everyone to the third annual Pride of Panola Honor Choir Program. The choir was started by Kristy Cawthon in 2017, when she realized due to budget constraints, many schools in Panola County didn’t have music programs. As a member of the Music Club she asked the club to sponsor a fourth, fifth and sixth grade children’s choir. The Honor Choir is a result of her vision and hard work.

Songs of the World, the program theme, included “Tongo,” “Stodola Pumpa,” “In This Ancient House,” “Hot Chocolate,” and “Sisi Ni Moja.” The selections were introduced by Hunter Brown, Davy Cawthon, Kasadi Goodman, Jonas Prewitt, Morgan Rabon lll, Piper Castillo and Sarah Twomey. These sixth grade students have participated in the choir for three years.

Sandra Bauer, co-director of the choir, is Director of Choral Activities at Panola College. A few of the choir and band students from the college help with the rehearsals and took part in the performance. The choir received a standing ovation from the audience.
