A Carthage man has been arrested after the Panola County Sheriff’s Office said he assaulted his parents and an officer.
James Lee Graves, 48, was arrested June 3 by Panola County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Richard Mojica for two counts of assault against an elderly or disabled individual, assault of a public servant, and resisting arrest.
The Panola County Sheriff’s Office received a call about 7 a.m. Thursday, Chief Deputy Jeff Ivy said, and officers were dispatched to County Road 184 in reference to a disturbance.
“Upon arrival, they made contact with the occupants there at the house who advised that they had been assaulted by their son,” Ivy said. “Both of these occupants fit into the age category where if they’re assaulted it’s injury to an elderly person. So whenever they tried to take the son into custody, he began resisting officers. He actually assaulted Deputy Mojica by hitting him in the face. There was a long struggle that ensued. They were able to eventually get him taken into custody, and he was transported to the detention center.”
