Was your operation impacted by the coronavirus pandemic? Apply for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program
The USDA is here to support farmers and ranchers through their Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, or CFAP. They are accepting applications through Aug. 28 and encouraging producers to apply now.
In Texas they approved more than 27,500 applications and disbursed nearly $331.7 million as of July 20. Many have applied for CFAP already, but the numbers indicate that some who are eligible have not. If you’re still unsure about CFAP and your operation, the USDA encourages you to take five minutes today to visit farmers.gov/cfap or call (877) 508-8364 to learn about eligibility and options to apply.
CFAP provides direct relief to producers who faced price declines and additional marketing costs due to COVID-19. You can access the full list of eligible non-specialty, specialty, livestock, dairy and wool commodities by visiting farmers.gov/cfap.
Options to apply are outlined at the top of farmers.gov/cfap. They offer a CFAP Application Portal where those with eAuthentication accounts can submit their application online. Don’t have an eAuthentication account? You can enroll at farmers.gov/sign-in. They also offer a manual application option and a CFAP Application Generator and Payment Calculator that allows you to input information specific to your operation to determine estimated payments and populate the application form.
You can apply now for the commodities that are currently eligible, and if any other commodities you produce are added to the program, the USDA will happily amend your application.
You can call the CFAP Call Center for one-on-one support with the CFAP application process. Call (877) 508-8364 to speak directly with a USDA employee ready to offer personalized assistance. The FSA office at your local USDA Service Center is also there to help you prepare your application.
SWEPCO offers new payment options for customers financially impacted by COVID-19
Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) is offering additional payment options for business and residential customers who are behind on their energy bills during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We understand that many customers are experiencing financial hardship during the pandemic, and we have added flexible bill payment options, including extended payment plans, to help customers get back on track,” said Paul Pratt, SWEPCO director of Customer Services and Marketing. “We encourage customers to contact us so that we can work together to find solutions that fit their needs.”
SWEPCO temporarily suspended disconnections for non-payment in March.
For business customers in Louisiana and Texas, SWEPCO has resumed disconnections for non-payment. The company had extended its suspension into mid-July as it continued to reach out and enroll customers in payment plans.
SWEPCO expects to resume residential customer disconnections for non-payment Aug. 6 in Louisiana and Sept. 1 in Texas, working in conjunction with state regulatory moratoriums. A state moratorium remains in effect in Arkansas.
Before any customers are disconnected for non-payment, they will have received multiple notices and opportunities to enroll in payment arrangements.
“Taking action now can help keep balances and bills manageable, and keep electric service connected,” Pratt said.
