Two people died and three others were injured early Saturday after two vehicles collided on Texas 315 in Panola County, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.

Troopers responded at 11:30 a.m. Saturday after a 2003 Honda SUV driven by Dominique Yon was traveling east at an unsafe speed, hydroplaned on the wet roadway, entered the westbound lane and struck a Toyota SUV driven by John Lusk, DPS Sgt. Jean Dark said.

As a result, Lusk and a passenger in Yon’s car, Yessenia Ramirez, were pronounced dead at the scene by Panola County Pct. 2 and 3 Justice of the Peace Toni Hughes.

A passenger in Lusk’s car, Mary Lusk, was taken to a Nacogdoches medical center. Yon was taken to a Tyler medical center, and another passenger in her car, Jacki Xu, was taken to a Henderson medical center.

The crash remains under investigation, Dark said.
