Lady Dogs win close fight with Rusk, 40-36

The Rusk Lady Eagles tried to overcome a third quarter deficit in the game against the Carthage Lady Dogs, but they couldn't manage it. The Lady Dogs came out on top, 40-36, at Friday's game.
It was a relatively close first half, as the Lady Dogs and the Lady Eagles kept pace in points with each other — The Lady Dogs nabbing seven points and the Lady Eagles grabbing eight points in the first quarter, followed by a 17-17 tie in the second quarter.
The Lady Dogs pulled away in the third quarter, racking up 32 points to the Lady Eagles' 24 points. And while the Lady Eagles tried to make up that deficit in the fourth quarter with a 12-point run, they couldn't overcome the Lady Dogs. Carthage would add an additional eight points to their total to shut out a Rusk win.
Jada McLin led the Lady Dogs in points scored, with 14. McLin also recorded 16 rebounds and one steal. Caroline Baldree scored eight points against Rusk, as well as seven rebounds and two steals. Zee McGrue recorded six points, four steals, two rebounds and six assists.
The Lady Dogs' district record is 4-3, with their next game taking place Tuesday against Henderson.
