As the end of the school year nears and the next generation of adults get ready to graduate high school, the Panola County Republican Women visited area schools to present the seniors a booklet prepared by the Texas Lawyers' Auxiliary called "Now You Are 18." This booklet explains some of the new rights and some of the laws that 18-year-olds, now legal adults in the state of Texas, need to be familiar with.
This year President Nancy Gibbs, Vice-President Carolyn Moore, Treasurer Patsy Smith, Campaign Chairman Mary Moss, and PCRW members Debra Johnson, Katie Nielson and JoNell Phillips made these presentations during the month of April.
Schools participating were Beckville High School, Carthage High School, Elysian Fields High School, Gary High School, Joaquin High School, Panola Charter School, Tenaha High School, and Waskom High School. Booklets were also given to Northside Christian Academy for the faculty to share with their seniors.
The Panola Co. Republican Women appreciate the principals and teachers who allow us to the opportunity and time to make these presentations to the great seniors in our area. This is one of PCRW's community project in which those who are ale to participate derive pleasure knowing that they, possibly, have a small part in making these young adults more prepared for the journey they are about to embark on as they enter "adulthood."
