Carthage softball, Beckville baseball advance to Area

Carthage defeated Canton 9-0 on Saturday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout and allow Carthage to advance to the Area round of the Class 4A softball tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs scored on a single by Carson Robertson in the first inning and a single by Addison Blissett in the second inning.

Chelcie Pierce earned the win for Carthage.. She threw six innings, surrendering zero runs, four hits, and striking out six. .

Taylor Wills started the game for Carthage. She tossed one inning, allowing zero runs, zero hits, striking out three, and walking zero.

Carthage Bulldogs Varsity had nine hits in the game. Dede Pope, Kayman Courtney, and Blissett each collected multiple hits. Blissett, Courtney, and Pope each managed two hits.

The Lady Dawgs stole five bases.

Wills threw a two-hit shutout Friday in a 10-0 Carthage victory in Game 1 of the Best of Three series.

Carthage secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the fifth inning. Carthage's big inning was driven by a single by Chelcie Pierce, a double by Carson Robertson, a triple by Kimberlyn Worsham, a groundout , a single by Addison Blissett, and a single by Kayman Courtney

The Carthage baseball team wasn't as fortunate, losing the series opener, taking a victory in Game 2 but falling in Saturday's third and deciding contest to be eliminated from postseason play.

Also in baseball action, Beckville run-ruled Sabine twice to easy advance to the Area round in 3A. The Bearcats topped their opponents 15-5, 10-0 to begin their march toward a second straight state finals match-up.

In Class 2A baseball, Gary dropped a 5-3 verdict in Game 1 in a Best of 3 series at West Sabine Friday night. No other result have bee made advailable.
