Dear Editor,

I would like to remind everyone that the Texas Legislature has begun the special session that was called by Governor Abbott. One might say "what does that have to do with me"? Anytime the Legislature is in session laws are going to be passed that affect our pocket books and how we conduct business and life.

As we go about our busy lives, it is difficult to keep up with what is happening at the Legislature. The Governor that Panola County supported is asking each Senator and Representative, especially the conservatives, to support the republican Platform planks that he has addressed.

There are 20 specific issues he has addressed. Among those are property tax reform, tax payor abortion, caps on state and local spending, school finance reform and a bathroom bill for folks who are confused on which restroom to be used.

I read an article the other day and found a term I wasn't familiar with and thought I would share it here. The term is "virtue signaling". It was used in an article by James Bartholomew in "The Spectator" defined as advertising a position, or virtue, more for garnering approval than for the principle of the matter.

Please call Representative Chris Paddie, in Austin at 1-515-463-0556 as well as Senator Bryan Hughes at 1-512-463-0101, and tell them to support conservative issues that they were elected to do,

Sincerely,

Allan D. Cain
