Things that Matter: Part 22

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!" "It's the peaceful Christmas time!" I wish it were "snowing in the pines!" As I wrote last week, we are a long way from peace in many places in our world, and according to the long range weather reports, we are a long way from snow! If you want snow, you gotta' leave here, but if you want to enjoy a peaceful place, come to Moss Point! I wish all could enjoy life here "behind the 'pine' curtain!" I do believe that during this season of the year people are more kind, friendlier, happier than at other times. After all, "It is the season to be jolly!" Don't we love it! What causes this? It starts around Thanksgiving and continues on through most of December, maybe through New Year's. Wish we could keep this spirit all year long. Are you doing your part? This is our season; let's make it our future!
Jesus Christ has certainly done His part! He is the vertical solution for peace! We all have responsibilities, horizontally, to work for peace, but lasting peace comes from our turning to Jesus Christ. It's not His fault that we don't have peace. He left Heaven and took upon Himself the form of a servant; He humbled Himself, "and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross," Phil. 2:8.
The world had been looking for the Messiah for centuries, but when His virgin birth ushered Him onto this earth, "there was no room for Him in the inn," Luke 2:7. Even after fulfilling every prophecy, living a perfect life, and then dying on a cross, there was no room for Him for He didn't match people's expectations or their preconceived ideas. Only a few honored Him as Messiah, the Prince of peace, and the world's Savior! "He came to His own "and they received Him not," John 1:11. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God," John 1:12.
Have things changed today? Do we have "room" for Him in our lives? In our homes, in our words, even in our churches? Oh, yes, for awhile. But the mood doesn't last as it should. We decorate our trees, mantles, wrap the presents so beautifully, our yards are full of art, we build costly cathedrals, buildings in which to worship, invent elaborate pagentry, liturgy, and impressive ceremony but to such the Lord says, "Give Me your heart!" He seeks the "inn" of our souls! Is there room for Him in yours? For His teaching? His teaching, not the doctrines and commandments of men! Matt. 15:9.
My goal is not to take away from the spirit of the season or ruin anyone's Christmas but simply to speak (write) a good word for Jesus and remind you of how you can have true peace on earth. As stated before, I don't know when He was born, but I do know when, where and how He died! I know why He died. That is what matters. Do you want peace with God, with mankind, oneself, families, brethren, churches, even enemies? Then make room for the Prince of peace in your life. His word tells you how. It will be your greatest season!
