This week's winter storm didn't just close down businesses throughout Panola County; the snow and ice accumulation also inflicted some damage to several metal awnings on downtown Carthage buildings. The building that used to house Don's Photo was the first to go, with the West Sabine Street building's awning falling and breaking a window on Monday. By Thursday, several more awnings would go on the Square itself, with some like at Ben's Pawn Shop covering the entire storefront windows. Main Street Cafe, on West Panola Street across from Brookshire Brothers, also reported damage from the storm: their metal roof collapsed and caused them to close down for repairs.
