Construction on the new College View Park and all-abilities playground in Carthage has begun and is expected to be finished in a few weeks.

The city is building an “all-inclusive” park on Bird Drive in front of the water tower that would allow children and adults of all abilities to play together on ADA-accessible equipment while also serving as an outdoor classroom for Panola College's occupational therapy assistant program.

Features would include rubber surfacing instead of wood chips; tranquil zones and sensory stimulation wheels with a wide variety of auditory/visual/tactile sensory opportunities; experiences for everyone; music gardens to encourage creativity and social interaction; a roller slide; and inclusive motion activities for people of all abilities, including a zero-entry merry-go-round and rocker. The park would include an 800-foot walking trail, as well as parallel bars, a chest press, a cardio walker and a captain’s chair.
