A community-built playground behind Beckville First United Methodist Church burned to the ground Wednesday. Members of the Beckville Volunteer Fire Department worked to extinguish the flames shortly after lunch.

"On arrival the United Methodist Church in Beckville, their playground equipment was on fire, and it jumped the road, jumped the railroad tracks, turned into a woodland, and then we got it knocked down," Beckville Fire Chief Carl Anderson said.

There were no injuries from the fire. Firefighters were finished putting out the fire and working on clearing the scene at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Anderson said they don't know what started the fire, but nothing looks suspicious.
