Attention all Panola County 4-H Families: Make your plans and call the office to attend the annual 4-H Awards Banquet set this year on Oct. 19 at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. Annually, your Panola adult leaders and 4-H Council work hard to bring you this excellent banquet to recognize our active 4-H members for their previous year’s success. Those kids in attendance that were active during the 2018-2019 4-H year will receive their project pens for completed county projects as well as a little something special for those youth in our county that participated at the district and state levels.

However, so we can ensure that we have all the awards organized as well that there is proper amount of food, we do ask that you contact the Panola County AgriLife Extension Service at (903) 693-0300 ext. 161 on or before Oct. 14.

Panola County Hay Show

It’s that time once again for the annual Panola County Hay Show, set for Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Panola County Expo Center. The Panola Soil & Water Conservation District, along with local sponsors, have teamed up with your Panola County Beef and Forage Committee to bring our area beef and forage producers a night of excellent educational presentations from regional experts, as well as announcing the award-winning forage producers for 2019 in Panola County.

The evening will begin with registration at 5:30 p.m., with a meal being served promptly at 6 p.m. at the Panola County Expo Center. Shortly after the meal, sponsored by the Panola Soil and Water Conservation District, we will begin our educational presentations delivered to us by Dr. Jason Banta, a Texas A&M beef cattle specialist located at the AgriLife Extension research Center in Overton.

Topics to be covered during the evening will focus on best management practices area producers can implement for area beef herds, as well as a look at different winter forage grazing practices to maximize production and utilization while reducing hay requirements. Immediately following our educational program, the Panola Soil and Water Conservation District will recognize our area award-winning forage producers with a plaque. Our meeting should conclude by 8 p.m. with a quick overview and look forward at future programs. We do ask that you please RSVP by calling (903) 693-0300 Ext. 161 or (903) 693-3311 Ext. 3 by Oct. 18.
