Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Longbranch sets annual revival

The Rev. Eugene Butler

The annual revival services for the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Longbranch are set for Monday, Aug. 19 through Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. each night. The Rev. James H. Wall Jr. is pastor, and the Rev. Eugene Butler will be the evangelist.

Butler, 68, is the son of Emma Butler of Houston and the late J. B. Pellum. He professed his calling to proclaim the Word of God in February 1995. He is the Pastor of the Mt. Calm Missionary Baptist Church of Houston, where he has served 18 years — since August 2001.

He earned his doctorate of theology and doctorate of biblical law degrees from the G.M.O.R. Theological Institute.

Butler has been married to his high school sweetheart, Patricia Jones, for 44 years. They have one son, one daughter and four grandchildren.

Before becoming Pastor of Mt. Calm, Butler was a member there. He worked on the Sunday school board; served several years as president of the choir; was ordained as a deacon in 1977 and served for 18 years; and in 1998, served as assistant pastor. Upon the death of the former pastor of Mt. Calm in June 2001, Butler was called to pastor.
