A nationally-acclaimed fitness program for seniors called Silver Sneakers is seeking out new members.
The program is basically a strength, balance and flexibility program. About one half of the exercises are done in the chair.
Regular fitness and a good diet offer an extension to one’s life and general good mental health. Being physically active and eating right can help in many ways, including:
- Reducing the number of physician visits and hospitalizations
- Positively affecting chronic diseases and conditions
- Enhancing feelings of well-being and self-confidence
- Reducing feelings of depression and anxiety
This group exercise program offers invigorating personalized workouts to help you stay on track toward your health and fitness goals.
The muscular strength and range of movement program is a core class for total body conditioning where you will use resistance tools and work at your own pace. It improves overall strength, flexibility, posture, breathing and balance.
Strength training is a safe and effective tool for older adults. It can increase muscle strength, maintain bone integrity, and improve balance, coordination and mobility. It also helps arthritis, osteoporosis and back pain. An increase in muscle building helps one to manage daily activities around the home.
Increasing one’s flexibility and joint range of motion allows for greater movement and reduces pain of the joints making it easier to perform daily activities of independent living.
The program’s motto is “Be healthy, be independent!”
Before joining any class, ask the advice of your personal physician about your abilities.
Come and join the enthusiastic group at the Central Baptist Activity Center each Monday and Friday at 9 a.m. and Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The class is free and lasts about 45 minutes.
