The 2021 Peace Officers Memorial was held Friday, May 14, 2021 at 10 a.m.

The annual Panola County Peace Officers’ Memorial will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 13 at Hawthorn Funeral Home and the Panola County courthouse lawn.

Chaplain James McRight will officiate. Each year, area peace officers and firefighters gather to remember officers lost in the line of duty in the State of Texas over the course of this last year. A special remembrance for local officers and firefighters are remembered each year by placing the remembrance wreath at the courthouse monument in their honor.

The memorial for 2022 will include a welcome from Sheriff Sarah Fields, the national anthem sung by former Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake, special music by Panola County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Karen English, a reading of the names of officers lost by Carthage Police Chief Blake Smith, a performance of “Taps” by Kirby Hill, and a final prayer by Sheriff-Elect Cutter Clinton.

The Hawthorn Ladies Auxiliary will host a reception on the courthouse lawn following the ceremony for all in attendance. Everyone is invited.
