The Hiram Bennett Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in Mesquite will host a grave-marking ceremony for Purviance Williams, a citizen of the Republic of Texas, during the Williams Cemetery's annual meeting on Sunday.
The gathering takes place at 11 a.m. at Williams Cemetery in Fairplay.
The story of research into Purviance Williams and his family will be told by great-great-granddaughter Nancy Williams Edwards, a Hiram Bennett Chapter Registrar and past Chapter Secretary.
Joe Ann Northcut McIver, former Hiram Bennett Chapter President and current Treasurer, will tell the story of Sarah J. Northcut, who died and was buried at Williams Cemetery in 1855.
Williams and Northcut descendants are welcome to join in the fellowship and food.
