Several fireworks shows are planned in and around Panola County this weekend and on the July 4 holiday.

The Woods Volunteer Fire Department said it would not host a fireworks show at its station this year.The following is a list of planned activities:

Lake Murvaul

Lake Murvaul will host its annual fireworks show on Saturday, June 29 at dusk, with the show starting when it gets dark. Crowds will be gathering at the Lake Murvaul Marina, 638 County Road 1234 in Panola County. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.


The American Legion and The Tenaha Businessmen’s Club will host a fireworks show July 4 at Tenaha ISD’s Raymond Jackson Stadium. Gates will open at 7 p.m., with Waylon Moore serving as entertainment until the fireworks are lit. A concession stand organized by Tenaha Together will be selling barbecue plates for $7. Fixings include chicken, potato salad, baked beans and bread. The Class of 2020 will be selling drinks and snacks. Admission is free. Bring a chair or sit in the stands.


The DeSoto Fire District No. 1 will host its annual fireworks show on July 4 on the riverfront. Entertainment and food are planned. Landry & Company will be performing from 5 to 7 p.m. The Heather Linn Band will play from 7 p.m. to the beginning of the fireworks show.

The Fire District is holding a Yeti Cooler raffle, with the winner announced at the Fireworks Show. Cost is $5 per ticket, and the winner doesn’t have to be present to win. Purchase raffle tickets by calling (318) 697-5150 or going by the DeSoto Fire District No. 1 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Handicap-accessible parking is available, and boats are welcome in designated areas. Organizers ask that no coolers be brought. The Sabine River shuts down to traffic at 7 p.m.
