Sharon Roberson-Jones was honored Nov. 21 at the Allen Dave Funeral Home annual Humanitarian Award Banquet, held at the A.L. Turner Community Center in Carthage.

Allen and Micca Dave, owners of Allen Dave Funeral Homes, rolled out the red carpet with a formal dinner banquet. Eva Pope Campbell of Carthage served as Mistress of Ceremony and presented the 2019 Humanitarian Award to Roberson-Jones.

Roberson-Jones is a Carthage native, having graduated from both Carthage High School and Panola College. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Wesleyan University and lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for several years.

Roberson-Jones formed Excellent Teen Choice in 2010 using her childhood experiences and formal education. The nonprofit focuses on helping teens make excellent choices today for tomorrow’s success.

Excellent Teen Choice offers an abstinence program, service learning opportunities and other empowerment workshops. As Roberson-Jones is a professional with longstanding commitment to the empowerment of young people, you can expect that Excellent Teen Choice will capitalize on its commitment to all teens and will continue to grow well into the future.

Roberson-Jones has received awards and acknowledgements from the State of Texas, the Sigma Gamma Rho Inc., the Mansfield Trailblazers, Forest Hill Church Ministries, Arlington Alliance for Youth, First Rate Inc. and more. Her work has included youth programs throughout Texas, including Perfecting Diamonds, Journey Into Manhood, College Life for 1st Year College Students and So You Want to Go Pro.

Roberson-Jones credits her success to four ladies in her village: her mother, Ollie Ruth Roberson, for her wit, humor and independence; and three women from her home church, Mrs. Mattie Thompson, for expanding her territory; Ms. Ruth White, for teaching her how to minister to prisoners and half-way house residents and listening to the youth; and Mrs. Velma Waters, for pushing her into various leadership positions.

Roberson-Jones is married to Reginald Jones, a former Dallas ISD educator.
