The Carthage Service League met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Hospitality Room at the Sammy Brown Library. Members brought canned goods and supplies to be taken to Samaritan House for holiday distributions.

President Harriet Huff presided over the meeting. A report of activities for December at the Sammy Brown Library were discussed. A crafting class will be held Dec. 5 to make a Christmas craft. Cookies for Santa will be Dec. 23, where children will decorate three cookies to take home for Santa. Anyone wishing to attend either of the events at the library will need to register ahead of time so supplies can be furnished.

Nancy Langford, Library Board President, reported that the library program has the capability of tracking how much money patrons save by using books, videos, and materials from the library. As of November, the local library has saved patrons $1 million dollars this year.

The Service League will participate in December Christmas activities at The Thrift Shop. A donation to the Chamber’s Shop Carthage First will be made, along with a drawing for a Christmas basket from The Thrift Shop. Shoppers can get details and sign up for the drawing at the downtown store.

Door prizes were given by Betty Kasper, thrift shop co-manager, to Ruth Shull, Jo Hall and Richie Honeycutt for their volunteer efforts at the shop.

Members in attendance were Barbara Alexander, Christy Atkin, Ruth Bristow, Bobbie Cariker, Jimmie Edmonds, Cherie Gibert, Fran Giroux, Darline Graves, Kim Holcomb, Margie Hopkins, Linda Howard, Debbie Jernigan, Lacy Jones, Sharon Kyle, Gayla LaGrone, Jo McMillan, Sandra Morrison, Shirley Murray, Lana Overton, Ellen Stokes, Linda Walkoviak, Kay Williamson, Barbara Wilson, Pamela Wilson, Arnold, Dawson, English, Hall, Honeycutt, Huff, Kasper, Langford and Shull.
