Lin Joffrion and members of the Carthage Music Club gathered Monday at Carthage City Hall to observe National Music Week, which is May 2 to May 9.

“Whereas music plays an increasingly important role in our world today, and whereas music is one of the most sublime of human pursuits and is subscribed to by all races and creeds, and whereas music is the language of all peoples and one of the greatest forces in creating peace and harmony,” read part of the proclamation signed by Joffrion on Monday.

Sarah Baker, with the Music Club, said members would be performing at area nursing homes next week. Music lovers can also head to Panola College on Sunday, May 2 at 3 p.m. to hear the Panola College Band perform.
