Classes of 1980, 1981 to host 40th reunion

The Carthage High School Classes of 1980 and 1981 are joining together to host a 40th class reunion on July 31.

The reunion will be held at the Carthage Country Club, 1129 U.S. 79 in Carthage, from 6 p.m. until midnight. Cost is $50 per person, and you can pay at the door. If money is a problem, come anyway.

Free Medicare education class planned

A Free Medicare education class is planned at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. July 27 at the Sammy Brown Library, 319 S. Market St. in Carthage.

Retirement reception planned for former Carthage Mayor

A retirement reception for former Carthage Mayor Lynn Vincent will take place Aug. 2 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, 310 W. Panola St. in Carthage.

Vincent retired in 2020 after 34 years of service with the city. An official reception to honor him had to be postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hair-Cut-Athon is Aug. 9

The Village Salon's annual Hair-Cut-Athon will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 9.

The event provides free haircuts to school-aged children while also raising money for Mission Carthage through raffles.

Sonshine and Rainbows MDO opens enrollment

Sonshine and Rainbows Mother's Day Out, hosted by Word Alive Outreach Ministries, is holding open enrollment for children ages 8 weeks to school age. The program meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $140 per month with a $30 per semester supply fee. Gary ISD opens school registration Monday

Gary ISD will host open enrollment/registration July 26-29 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. at the Elementary campus.

All GISD students will register at the Elementary campus, with students in grades Pre-K through 6 registering at the elementary office and those in grades 7-12 registering and checking out Chromebooks in the cafeteria.

Meet the Teacher is planned Aug. 10 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at both the Elementary and Secondary campuses. Students and families will be able to pick up schedules, find out homeroom teacher placement, drop off supplies and pick up car and bus rider tags.

Old Jail Library and Museum changes weekend hours

The Old Jail Library and Museum switched its weekend hours and will now be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. instead of Sundays.

Night of Worship planned July 25

A Panola County Night of Worship is planned Sunday, July 25 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Carthage, 256 S. Market St. Choirs from community churches will be singing.

Anyone is welcome to come sing. Rehearsal starts at 4 p.m.

Old Bethel to host homecoming July 25

The Old Bethel Baptist Church will host its homecoming service on Sunday, July 25 at noon.

The Rev. Richard Hall of the St. Mary C.B.C. in Houston will bring the homecoming message.

Dinner will be served.

Back to School Bash is Aug. 7

Mission Carthage's annual Back to School Bash will be Saturday, Aug. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carthage High School.

The school supply drive will once again be hosted as a drive-thru event, giving away free school supplies to Panola County students entering kindergarten through 12th grade.
