Bear Creek Smokehouse in Marshall is gearing up for its first ever Ice Cream Social event set for July 13 at its location on Texas 154.

Get your spoons ready!

Bear Creek Smokehouse in Marshall is set to host its first ice cream social and contest later this month, and community members are invited to pit their best homemade ice cream recipe and flavor against others to see who takes home bragging rights.

Those not quite yet ready to debut their homemade ice cream recipe for the masses are welcome to come out with their families and beat the heat by taste testing the ice cream selections while socializing with others.

The Bear Creek Smokehouse Ice Cream Social and Contest is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 13 at the company’s newest event center, 10857 Texas 154 in Marshall.

The event is open to the public, with those intending to compete in the ice cream contest asked to register by July 11.

“This is our first time to host this event and we are thrilled,” smokehouse spokeswoman Stacia Shoults said. “We are hoping to do this event each year and so far we have had a great response. We hope to make this a tradition.”

There will be also a farmers market at Bear Creek on the same day.

Shoults said events like the ice cream social and contest are why her family built and opened the new event center on the property in November.

“We’ve been looking for ways to get people out to come see us,” she said. “It was so busy the first few months after we opened the event center that it’s taken us a little while to plan these events we anticipated having when we built it,” she said. “Now that the dust has settled, so to speak, we are able to really start planning.

“Stormy Nickerson, the former Greater Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce director has joined our family and will help us plan those events, so we’re really excited.”

In addition to the farmers market on July 13, the ice cream social and contest will feature bounce houses and a foam machine, weather permitting.

If rain does move in the area that day, Shoults said the party will just move inside the event center building.

“We encourage families to come out and spend time with each other, try some ice cream and just have a fun day,” Shoults said.

For those in the ice cream contest, the first place winner will receive bragging rights and most importantly, a six-month supply of Bear Creek Smokehouse bacon.

There is no fee to enter the ice cream contest and all ages are welcome. The first category will be the “Judge’s Favorite” and the second category will be the “Most Unique Flavor.” The top-placing winner of the second category will take home a $50 Bear Creek Smokehouse gift card and a bottle of San Saba ice cream topping.

Those participating in the contest must make their homemade ice cream on site at Bear Creek Smokehouse. To contact Bear Creek and register for the contest, call (903) 935-5217 or visit bearcreeksmokehouse.com.

While the event begins at 10 a.m., those interested in purchasing lunch at the venue will be able to buy lunch, ice cream and cobbler dessert from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
