One person died and two others were seriously injured Wednesday when a car hit a truck head on on a foggy U.S. 79 roadway, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Troopers were called around 8:48 a.m. to U.S. 79 about two miles west of Carthage on Wednesday.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette driven by Aaron R. Allen, 31, of Pineville, Louisiana was traveling west on U.S. 79 and a pick-up truck was traveling east on the same road.
DPS said Allen was passing a vehicle in heavy fog and struck the truck head-on.
Allen died at the scene of the crash, DPS said. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the truck was identified as Dale W. Eldredge, 74, of Gary. He was taken to UT Health Henderson in critical condition.
A passenger in the truck, Amanda Duckworth, 61, of Gary, was taken to UT Health Henderson in serious condition. DPS said both were wearing seatbelts.
